The Ex-Husband

Woman afraid of husband

Share This:

As I took each step down the aisle, a chilling realization washed over me – I was about to marry the wrong man.  Yet, there I was, marching towards a future that seemed more like a storm than a fairytale. The desire for children, a longing so profound, had somehow clouded my judgement, leading me into a situation I knew was far from ideal. The weight of self-blame was heavy in my heart, but the yearning for motherhood was even stronger.

Reflecting on those early years, I see a woman who was determined, resilient, and fiercely independent. I was a woman who, despite the challenges thrown her way, stood tall and faced them head-on. I was a woman who, despite the odds, raised three incredible sons single-handedly. I was a woman who, despite the lack of support, built a successful career and provided for her family. Looking back, I see a woman who turned adversity into strength, and for that, I am immensely proud. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. Every struggle, every sacrifice, every late night and early morning, they all led me to where I am today. And for that, I wouldn’t change a thing.

I knew walking down the aisle I was making a mistake

Despite the emotional turmoil stirred up by my ex-husband, I had no choice but to put on a brave face and show up at my corporate job every day. As the sole provider, the responsibility was immense and the journey was far from easy!

In the face of adversity, I found an inner strength I never knew I possessed. Raising three boys on my own, from the tender ages of 6, 4, and 2, was a journey that came with its fair share of judgement, particularly from women who couldn’t comprehend my resilience. Their insecurity was a mirror reflecting their own limitations, not mine.

Simultaneously, I was carving out a path in the male-dominated world of advertising technology, a battlefield of its own. I navigated the corporate ladder, sometimes having to lean into my femininity to secure a promotion, a tactic born out of necessity rather than choice. My intellect, often overshadowed by the sea of grey-haired men around the boardroom table, was my secret weapon, my silent ally.  But that’s another story for SlayAllDay.ca .
